Introduction

Barnacles are major fouling organisms as well as unique marine organisms for many biologists including Charles Darwin who was especially fascinated with these animals.

The first International Symposium "Current Topics on Barnacle Biology" was held as a satellite symposium of 14th ICMCF at Kobe, Japan in 2008. After a hiatus of six years, it is a good opportunity for barnacle researchers to gather again to communicate and share the latest developments in barnacle biology.

The 2nd satellite symposium of the 17th ICMCF 2014 will focus on evolutional biology, ecology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular and applied biology of barnacles. This symposium will be beneficial to all scientists working on barnacles and offer yet another chance for participants of the 17th ICMCF to present their research.
